The Denver Broncos are in the playoffs.

With their win over the Kansas City Chiefs yesterday, they advance to postseason play for the first time since 2015. Amid all of the excitement in Denver, it is their quarterback’s faith and genuineness that is catching notice.

Bo Nix is the rookie starting quarterback for the Broncos. He played for Auburn and Oregon in college, where he consistently wore a cross on his wristband during games—a practice he has carried into his professional career. Being a disciple shapes everything he does, and Nix doesn’t need to draw attention to this fact — he simply lives it. He has even made a personal commitment to avoid cursing, reflecting his desire to live out his faith in all aspects of his life.

Thomas Griffin is the chairperson of the religion department at a Catholic high school on Long Island where he lives with his wife and two sons. He has a masters degree in theology and is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Empty Tomb Project: The Magazine. He is the author of Let Us Begin: Saint Francis’s Way of Becoming Like Christ and Renewing the World.
